Two entrepreneurs discuss business in Oregon City

2024 Biz Pod Graduation

On June 1, 2024, the Economic Development Department held the graduation ceremony for the second BIZ POD class. The program hosted a total of six candidates in order to ensure a balance of individual attention and group collaboration. During this seven-week program, participants were able to have their businesses reviewed by experts to determine strengths and vulnerabilities and be trained on a range of topics from technology applications to business operations.

This year’s cohort represented a wide array of businesses, from art and creative to finance and marketing. The participating businesses included:

  • Free Flow Dance – Movement & Pole Fitness Studio
  • Casler Financial
  • Trail Skipper Studio

These businesses will help to broaden and strengthen our local business community and keep it thriving.

Who Should Apply?

• Aspiring entrepreneurs with a product or service.

• Businesses demonstrating a market need and potential for job creation.

• Participants committed to attending in-person classes and events in Oregon City.

• Businesses with an Oregon City business license and Oregon City-based address.

Key 2024 Biz Pod Dates

Feb 20 – applications due

• Feb 27 – applicants notified of acceptance

• Mar 7 – program kick-off and meet & greet with past participants, advisors, and city officials

• Mar 16 – first class (the only Saturday class)

• Apr 3 – Wednesday classes begin (then Apr 4, Apr 18, May 2)

• May 16 – Last class

• May 16-31 – Meet with advisors

• June 1 – Celebration and Graduation Ceremony

Attendance to all sessions and events is required in order to receive the $3,000 grant at program completion, as it is important for business owners to be “all in” in order to obtain the most benefit from what Biz Pod has to offer.

Module Descriptions:

Module 1: How is Your Business Today?
Saturday, March 16, 9:
30 – 1:30 (lunch provided)

Identify the baseline of your business and assist you with operational challenges. Includes the module plus a two-hour on-site consultation with advisors.

Module 2: Define Your Goals & Implement
Thursday, April 3, 1 – 4

The way to success in business and in life is by establishing goals and a plan to reach them. This module teaches you how to manage projects towards your goals, including setting milestones and task management. Includes a voluntary one-on-one advisory session.

Module 3: Customer Experience and Growth
Thursday, April 18, 9:30 – 12:30

Learn the ways you can stand out from competitors, provide an excellent customer experience and attract new customers. Includes the module, plus two one-on-one sessions to go deeper into your marketing as it relates to these three areas. Includes the module, plus two one-on-one sessions to go deeper into your local and regional marketing efforts.

Module 4: Become a Number Whisperer #1
Thursday, May 2, 9:30 – 12:30

If you don’t understand financial terminology, then you don’t know your business. This module helps you understand financial indicators and how they apply to small businesses. Each finance module includes a class and a one-on-one advisory session.

Module 5: Become a Number Whisperer #2
Thursday, May 16, 9:30 – 12:30

This module shows you how to use your numbers to get insight into your company and make informed strategic decisions.

Tech Consultation

Use appropriate technology and data to make your business more efficient and provide insights into your company. This is a 90-minute one-on-one session with a tech expert to evaluate and discuss the technology that should be associated with your business.
